We live in a world of information overload making us confused and overwhelmed. School never taught us about money because its more beneficial to stay in the "system" so we have to take the initiative & responsibility to win with money.
My practice works with women from all walks of life as well as small business owners. As a business owner myself, I understand how stressful this can be. Over the years I have witness the transformation from my clients going from "I don't know what I'm doing" to now saying "Wow, I wish I knew about this a long time ago".
Since I was a teenager I was always curious about money because my parents fought about it all the time. It was awful. I recall saying to myself.. how do I make sure this doesn't happen to me?
I wish I could say I was a wizard with money but the truth is, I picked up a bad habit of buying things I could not afford because I was an emotional mess. By the time I was 21, I had a massive amount of debt (credit cards, student loans, personal loans and monthly payments for my dog..I know!). Desperate for a solution, I read every book about personal finance. I was scrapping money and working multiple jobs just to crack at my debt. I was exhausted.
Did I pay off debt? Sure, but I was living like I was poor. Overtime I became resentful because I was not enjoying the things I love. I was afraid of spending money which is not a way to live either. We should be able to buy the things we want. What is the point of working so hard if you can't enjoy it?
For me, I enjoy an effortless, clutter free, luxury life. I also love to travel & collect designer handbags which I'm unapologetic about because I built a foundation first. This is the key to financial wellness. We should not be flashing materialistic items on social media (aka FOMO) when we are behind on our rent, bills or with no savings for retirement.
The truth is time will pass. We will get older and if we don't have our finances in order, we could be facing a retirement crisis.
A different perspective...
What if we planned our golden years living in luxury with no worries about money? What is luxury to you? What if we can start that brick and mortal business? What if you can pay off student loan debt? What if you can go on that family trip or even build a school for other young girls (it is possible!)?
Once you no longer have money problems, the opportunities are endless!
And the best part, you don't need to make millions! With the exception of life happening to us from time to time, I truly believe anything is possible if you plan for it.
This is why I'm passionate about my work. Within a 5 year timeline (I was in my 30s) I got fired from multiple jobs, divorced, becoming a single mom, a sudden death and illness in my family all of which cost a lot of money.
I share a little bit about my story because I want you to know that we all face different challenges. Life is really hard because we never know about tomorrow. However, planning ahead financially will help alleviate the burden of the emotional stress.
Let's take control of our money regardless of our martial status so we can be proud of the life we lived!
I hope learning a little bit about me inspired you to take action. You are not alone! Never be embarrassed about your situation.
